Accessing the Application

Usage Policy

WindyGrid is only available on the City of Chicago and OEMC networks. A VPN connection will be required to access the application. Access may be granted through proper protocol of requesting the city’s SSL VPN (connect.cityofchicago.org) through your supervisor or by calling 4-DATA.

Request Access

To obtain access to WindyGrid written permission must be provided via email, windygridteam@cityofchicago.org, by a first deputy, department or agency-head. The email should also include all information pertaining to the user(s):

  • First and Last Names

  • Active Directory ID or other WindyGrid-supported logins, such as CPD's OID (ID is usually the user system login credentials).

  • Email Address

  • Access Levels

Contractors may access WindyGrid with permission from the department's leadership. However, the user must have an Active Directory ID or OID. If not, please contact ITSC to request a user login before contacting the WindyGrid team.

CFD and CPD Requests

All CFD and CPD staff have access to WindyGrid. Management is not required to use the WindyGrid platform. However, OEMC users who do not have an OID are required to seek permission from OEMC commissioner or first deputy to access WindyGrid.

Access to 911F and 911P data is limited to CPD, CFD, and OEMC users. If your team needs access to 911 data, permission must be obtained from OEMC's commissioner or first deputy, in addition to permission obtained from your respective department leadership.

Sister Agency Access

Currently, WindyGrid does not support access by sister agencies.

Remove Access

Department and agency heads or first deputy of a User Departments may also request temporary or permanent restrictions or revocation of access by contacting windygridteam@cityofchicago.org.

Users who've left the city or terminated are automatically removed from WindyGrid. However, employees who've transferred between departments and roles will still retain access unless their credentials have changed or there was a request to remove their access from WindyGrid.
