Find Data panel is where more defined searches are built and saved; where existing saved searches and predefined searches are executed. A user can combine search criteria by applying multiple datasets, adding rule/s or group/s in building a search.

Panel No. Panel Description
1. Search Link, when highlighted displays the search panel.
2. Manage Queries Link, displays a list of all searches saved by an end user.
3. Existing Queries is a collapsible link that displays "Commonly Used Searches" and "Load Saved Query".
4. Commonly Used Queries are predefined searches that end users utilize to search around the chicagoland area.
5. Load Saved Queries, are saved searches created based on end users discretion. The droplist displays up to a total of ten searches.
6. Select Data, is a collapsible link that is used to run advanced searches within the find data panel. It has an "Add Dataset" link; that is used to start the process of creating a search, when selected it displays a droplist of available city datasets; when a dataset is selected an additional textbox appears with AND/OR operands with an additional droplist that displays the dataset searchable datatypes. There is also a color option link underneath the datatype selector search box, that provides the user with the option to change the data point color, size and transparency.
7. Select Location, is a collapsible link that interacts with the Search Data section of the Find Data Panel; providing geo-spatial filtering against the dataset. There are two filter parameters within the Selection Location section... "WITHIN" and "NEAR". Within has a droplist of available geo spatial filterings that are uSed to search within a specific filter type. Near activates the geo locator (ME) or marker feature (MARKER). For more details see "WITHIN" and "NEAR" section later in the document.
8. SAVED QUERY AS, is where the process starts in saving a search within the application.
9. Auto Refresh is activated when the checkbox is selected; the default timimg is 30 seconds.
10. Get Data Button, executes the advanced search.
11. Clear Search Button, resets the find data panel section.

Getting Started

  1. In Select Data – Select the Add Dataset Link.

  2. A drop list of available datasets appears, select the appropriate set.

  3. Parameter box appears with and/or operator as connectors.

  4. Identify the parameters from the drop list.

  5. Add location boundary (Select Location Section), if needed.

  6. Execute the search, select "Get Data".

Search Examples

Single Search With No Specification

Search that displays a single dataset with no parameters returns all information pertaining to that dataset. Maximum results displayed on the grid is 6000.

No Filter Search

Single Search by Address

Search that is based off Address Only. Return all data pertaining to that address.

Address Search

Single Search With Multiple Parameters

Query setup that returns multiple criteria from a dataset are used for comparison purposes. Using food establishments as an example, search restaurants and food trucks in Chicago. Both search descriptors are listed under a single dataset, called Business Licenses.

Click on Add dataset, select Business Licenses, Description = "Retail Food Establishment". Repeat the Add dataset process with Description = “Mobile Food License”.

To distinguished between data points in a multiple parameter query that shares the same dataset; define a color to each dataset setup. Datasets are assigned a specific color to distinguished between the data on the map.

Define each setup with a different color option when applying the same dataset twice with different parameters. If the subset color is not defined the data for each parameter will plot on the grid, making it difficult to differentiate between the filtered setup.

To differentiate the data, select the “Color Option” link beneath the search window. The example below displays the search setup and each data type represented on the grid. Retail Food Establishments displays as the color "Blue" and Mobile Food Licenses are "Red".

Note

Business Licenses default color is Sienna.

Single Search With Multiple Parameters

Multiple Search With Single Parameter

Query setup that returns multiple datasets and a single parameter on the map. Multiple data searches can be queried simultaneously; returning multiple results on the grid.

Click Add dataset, select Business Permits, Permit Type = “Signs”. Repeat, Add dataset process, select Business License, Legal Name contains “INC”.
